Who Should Attend? This course is aimed at project managers, site managers and site supervisors as well as proprietors of small to medium sized companies whose current qualification is about to expire. Client-based personnel would also benefit from attending the course. Attendees must take an SMSTS Refresher course before their existing certificate expires, otherwise the full SMSTS course must be taken again.

Course Overview: This course is designed for candidates who have already hold the primary SMSTS certificate. delegates will be updated on developments in construction legislation and use of appropriate best practice. The course will also enhance existing managerial skills necessary to achieve compliance with any new legal duties and responsibilities placed on them and their workforce.
Upon successful completion of this course attendees will be able to implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their daily work, implement new guidance and industry best practice, state their duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment.

Course Content: The course will cover the following: –
– Legislation, ACOP updates with discussions on impact and practical aspects of compliance
– Overview of proposed / impending legislation
– Accident statistics, costs, causes, management responsibilities / methods in prevention, RIDDOR
– HSE’s current focus on construction activities
– Safety management systems, policies, plans and performance measuring
– Management of Contractors
– Communication and consultation aspects, effective use of ‘toolbox talks’ and ‘site inductions’
– Behavioural Safety including awareness of human error, stress and prevention
– Syndicate exercises

Training Method: Theory with discussion. Power Point presentation. Multiple choice examination and present a suitable health and safety solution to a site activity which qualifies them for the Construction Site Managers Safety Certificate.

Course Materials: Provided by CITB.

Requirements: Must have passed the primary SMSTS course and their certificate must not have expired. Attendees must have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

Assessment: Continuously assessed through a range of discussion and practical exercises throughout entire course. Examination at conclusion.

Certification: A CITB Certificate of Training will be issued to all those who complete the course to a satisfactory standard.
